A cloth banner made by Rotarians in India to promote National Immunization
Days (NIDs) has entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest banner
in the world.
Displayed by the National PolioPlus Committee of India during a major NID in
Mumbai, on 22 February, the 50.4-kilometer (31.3-mile) long banner has broken
the record previously held by a 10.15-kilometer (6.5-mile) banner promoting a
brand of whisky in India. The new record holder was viewed by attendees of the
2002 RI Presidential PolioPlus Summit, many of whom also participated in the
NID.
To confirm the authenticity of the record, the keeper of records at Guinness
World Records, Ltd., issued a certificate that was received by the National
PolioPlus Committee of India in June.
